By Jennifer Pearson. They have been dating for 16 years, yet never married. But Jon Hamm's relationship with longtime girlfriend, Jennifer Westfeldt, is hotter than ever. The icing on top of the cake was when Jon drew Jennifer in for a warm embrace and then a full-on kiss in view of the valet staffers and shoppers alike.

The couple looked like they hadn't a care in the world beyond their heavy lip lock. Jon looked nothing like the sleek-haired suited ad man he plays on the award-winning AMC series. The six foot two actor - who hails from St Louis, Missouri - was California cool in slightly cuffed blue jeans, a casual white button-down shirt and brown boots.

Once again, the handsome star appeared to had gone commando. Best holiday gift ever: The handsome actor treated Jennifer to a shopping spree at the high-end retailer. While co-star Christina Hendricks has spoken about the 'authentic and meticulous' underwear selection on hand on set that has help her perfect her Joan Holloway wiggle, Jon is thought to be not a fan of the accoutrements. In fact, earlier this year there were rumours that the star did in fact prefer to go 'commando' underneath his costumes.

Jon had apparently been at the centre of a few awkward wardrobe moments on set, causing quite the stir among staff with his rather impressive anatomy. The New York Daily News reported that during filming of the sixth season of the show, Jon was 'politely instructed by a staffer at the [AMC] network to please wear underwear while shooting his scenes. The source added: 'This season takes place in the s, where the pants are very tight and leave little to the imagination.

Someone to hold: The couple kissed and hugged in full view of everyone, showing that after 16 years together they're still madly in love. Apparently, he also caused a stir while filming the show in Hawaii where he sported 'tiny shorts' for several scenes.

His privates are the inside joke,' the source added. Addressing the frenzy over his body for the April issue of Rolling Stone, Jon said he was fed up with people obsessing over his manhood. Big tipper: The actor was no cheapskate either as he had a tip ready for the valet employee.

Lay off. There are harder jobs in the world. But whatever. I guess it's better than being called out for the opposite. It just speaks to a broader freedom that people feel like they have - a prurience.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Jon also went for a relaxed look with his hair, which was naturally fluffed with one strand handsomely falling across his forehead above his shaded eyes. He even sported some greyish facial fuzz, a sign that he hadn't shaven in a day or two. Magazine in October, Jon often has to shave two and sometimes three times a day on the set for his role as suave Don Draper.

Wish list: It looks like they found something they liked as Jon emerged with a Barneys New York shopping bag. Going commando? Jon appeared to be going commando during the shopping trip. No doubt Jon was glad to give his close-edged razor the day off during his afternoon excursion. Jennifer, 43, was likewise dressed down in jeans, a pale peach knit top and brown boots, and she wore her strawberry-blonde hair long and straight.

It looks like Jon and Jennifer found something they liked at Barneys New York, as the actor was spotted leaving the department store with a large bag in his grasp. Marriage not required: The actor has called Jennifer the 'love of my life' but has no plans to marry her. Although the couple has been in a relationship since , Jon feels no urge to walk down the aisle. His career seems to be going full steam as well and he will next be seen in the sports drama Million Dollar Arm, due out in US theatres on May 14, Jon will also be voicing a character in the forthcoming animated movie The Minions.

Take a good look: Jon is filming the seventh - and final - season of the AMC series Mad men, which will be aired in two parts in and Still Mad-ly in love! Jon Hamm showers girlfriend of 16 years Jennifer Westfeldt with a hug and kiss Someone to hold: The couple kissed and hugged in full view of everyone, showing that after 16 years together they're still madly in love Apparently, he also caused a stir while filming the show in Hawaii where he sported 'tiny shorts' for several scenes.

Written by Anonymous. There are really only two ways John Goodman could ever fit into a sports movie: a he's not the lead or b it's about fishing. I'm nowhere near an authority on the real Babe Ruth, but I reckon a baseball legend could probably run five yards without being completely out of breath. Don't get me wrong, Goodman is excellent in the non-baseball scenes, but whenever he gets on that plate it's really embarrassing and highly unconvincing.

Was this movie made on a dare? Did the studio just think John Goodman needed some exercise? It's pretty painful to watch all in all, but you can't look away. And yet Oh well, at least it's easy to sit through. Enjoy a night in with these popular movies available to stream now with Prime Video.

George Herman " Babe " Ruth Jr. In , Ruth was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame as one of its "first five" inaugural members. At age seven, Ruth was sent to St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys , a reformatory where he was mentored by Brother Matthias Boutlier of the Xaverian Brothers , the school's disciplinarian and a capable baseball player.

By , he had built a reputation as an outstanding pitcher who sometimes hit long home runs, a feat unusual for any player in the pre dead-ball era. Although Ruth twice won 23 games in a season as a pitcher and was a member of three World Series championship teams with the Red Sox, he wanted to play every day and was allowed to convert to an outfielder. With regular playing time, he broke the MLB single-season home run record in The trade fueled Boston's subsequent year championship drought and popularized the " Curse of the Bambino " superstition.

His big swing led to escalating home run totals that not only drew fans to the ballpark and boosted the sport's popularity but also helped usher in baseball's live-ball era , which evolved from a low-scoring game of strategy to a sport where the home run was a major factor. As part of the Yankees' vaunted " Murderers' Row " lineup of , Ruth hit 60 home runs, which extended his MLB single-season record by a single home run.

Ruth's last season with the Yankees was ; he retired from the game the following year, after a short stint with the Boston Braves. During his career, Ruth led the AL in home runs during a season 12 times. During Ruth's career, he was the target of intense press and public attention for his baseball exploits and off-field penchants for drinking and womanizing.

In , he became ill with nasopharyngeal cancer and died from the disease two years later. Ruth remains a part of American culture and in , President Donald Trump posthumously awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom. George Herman Ruth Jr. According to the census, his parents were born in Maryland.

His paternal grandparents were from Prussia and Hanover. Ruth Sr. The elder Ruth then became a counterman in a family-owned combination grocery and saloon business on Frederick Street. George Ruth Jr. Many details of Ruth's childhood are unknown, including the date of his parents' marriage. Details are equally scanty about why Ruth was sent at the age of seven to St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys , a reformatory and orphanage.

Ruth was sent to St. Mary's because George Sr. Some accounts say that following a violent incident at his father's saloon, the city authorities decided that this environment was unsuitable for a small child. Ruth entered St. Mary's on June 13, He was recorded as "incorrigible" and spent much of the next 12 years there.

Although St. Mary's boys received an education, students were also expected to learn work skills and help operate the school, particularly once the boys turned Ruth became a shirtmaker and was also proficient as a carpenter. He would adjust his own shirt collars, rather than having a tailor do so, even during his well-paid baseball career. Mary's in The food was simple, and the Xaverian Brothers who ran the school insisted on strict discipline; corporal punishment was common.

Ruth was sometimes allowed to rejoin his family or was placed at St. James's Home, a supervised residence with work in the community, but he was always returned to St.

Mary's only to attend the funeral. Mary's by the school's athletic director, Brother Herman, becoming a catcher even though left-handers rarely play that position. During his time there he also played third base and shortstop , again unusual for a left-hander, and was forced to wear mitts and gloves made for right-handers. A large man, Brother Matthias was greatly respected by the boys both for his strength and for his fairness.

For the rest of his life, Ruth would praise Brother Matthias, and his running and hitting styles closely resembled his teacher's. Creamer commented on the closeness between the two:. Ruth revered Brother Matthias George Ruth caught Brother Matthias' attention early, and the calm, considerable attention the big man gave the young hellraiser from the waterfront struck a spark of response in the boy's soul The school's influence remained with Ruth in other ways.

He was a lifelong Catholic who would sometimes attend Mass after carousing all night, and he became a well-known member of the Knights of Columbus. He would visit orphanages, schools, and hospitals throughout his life, often avoiding publicity. Nevertheless, his biographer Leigh Montville suggests that many of the off-the-field excesses of Ruth's career were driven by the deprivations of his time at St.

Mary's played baseball in organized leagues at different levels of proficiency. Ruth later estimated that he played games a year as he steadily climbed the ladder of success. Although he played all positions at one time or another including infield positions generally reserved for right-handers , he gained stardom as a pitcher. According to Brother Matthias, Ruth was standing to one side laughing at the bumbling pitching efforts of fellow students, and Matthias told him to go in and see if he could do better.

Ruth had become the best pitcher at St. Mary's, and when he was 18 in , he was allowed to leave the premises to play weekend games on teams that were drawn from the community. He was mentioned in several newspaper articles, for both his pitching prowess and ability to hit long home runs. The circumstances of Ruth's signing are not known with certainty; historical fact is obscured by stories that cannot all be true.

By some accounts, Dunn was urged to attend a game between an all-star team from St. Mary's and one from another Xaverian facility, Mount St. Mary's College.

Some versions have Ruth running away before the eagerly awaited game, to return in time to be punished, and then pitching St. Mary's to victory as Dunn watched. Mary's graduate, pitching in an alumni game after watching a preliminary contest between the college's freshmen and a team from St.

Mary's, including Ruth. Engel watched Ruth play, then told Dunn about him at a chance meeting in Washington. Ruth, in his autobiography, stated only that he worked out for Dunn for a half hour, and was signed. SportsCentury reported that his nickname was gained because he was the new "darling" or "project" of Dunn, not only due to Ruth's raw talent, but also because of his lack of knowledge of the proper etiquette of eating out in a restaurant, being in a hotel, or being on a train.

Ruth made his first appearance as a professional ballplayer in an inter-squad game on March 7, He played shortstop and pitched the last two innings of a 15—9 victory. In his second at-bat, Ruth hit a long home run to right field; the blast was locally reported to be longer than a legendary shot hit by Jim Thorpe in Fayetteville. Ruth pitched the middle three innings and gave up two runs in the fourth, but then settled down and pitched a scoreless fifth and sixth innings.

In a game against the Phillies the following afternoon, Ruth entered during the sixth inning and did not allow a run the rest of the way. The Orioles scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to overcome a 6—0 deficit, and Ruth was the winning pitcher.

Once the regular season began, Ruth was a star pitcher who was also dangerous at the plate. Few fans visited Oriole Park , where Ruth and his teammates labored in relative obscurity. The competition from the Terrapins caused Dunn to sustain large losses. Although by late June the Orioles were in first place, having won over two-thirds of their games, the paid attendance dropped as low as Dunn explored a possible move by the Orioles to Richmond, Virginia , as well as the sale of a minority interest in the club.

These possibilities fell through, leaving Dunn with little choice other than to sell his best players to major league teams to raise money. Ruth remained with the Orioles for several days while the Red Sox completed a road trip, and reported to the team in Boston on July Ruth later told the story of how that morning he had met Helen Woodford, the girl who would become his first wife.

She was a year-old waitress at Landers Coffee Shop, and Ruth related that she served him when he had breakfast there. Other stories, though, suggested that the meeting occurred on another day, and perhaps under other circumstances.

Regardless of when he began to woo his first wife, he won his first game as a pitcher for the Red Sox that afternoon, 4—3, over the Cleveland Naps. His catcher was Bill Carrigan , who was also the Red Sox manager.

Shore was given a start by Carrigan the next day; he won that and his second start and thereafter was pitched regularly. Ruth lost his second start, and was thereafter little used. Egan was traded to Cleveland after two weeks on the Boston roster.

When he was traded, no one took his place as supervisor. Ruth's new teammates considered him brash, and would have preferred him, as a rookie, to remain quiet and inconspicuous. When Ruth insisted on taking batting practice despite being both a rookie who did not play regularly, and a pitcher, he arrived to find his bats sawn in half.

His teammates nicknamed him "the Big Baboon", a name the swarthy Ruth, who had disliked the nickname "Niggerlips" at St. Mary's, detested. Manager Carrigan allowed Ruth to pitch two exhibition games in mid-August. Although Ruth won both against minor-league competition, he was not restored to the pitching rotation.

It is uncertain why Carrigan did not give Ruth additional opportunities to pitch. There are legends—filmed for the screen in The Babe Ruth Story —that the young pitcher had a habit of signaling his intent to throw a curveball by sticking out his tongue slightly, and that he was easy to hit until this changed.

Creamer pointed out that it is common for inexperienced pitchers to display such habits, and the need to break Ruth of his would not constitute a reason to not use him at all.
