I've noticed that there are numerous offers for people that want to go from Manila to Boracay directly for a cheap price, through this airline called "Asian Spirit". Is it a safe Airline? How are the airplanes? Is it safe travelling with them to boracay? Someone have experienced the same airline and want to give advise? Other choices? I have never travelled with them but I can tell you this.

The only reason to fly with them is the short travel time. You can fly with them direct to Caticlan, the jump off point for Boracay. Better planes are to be found with Pilippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific. However, they only fly to Kalibo and you have a 2 hour bus ride from Kalibo to Caticlan. In my opinion, the airline used antiquated plane that should have been "mothballed" long time ago. I had not much confidence in this type of plane they used.

I felt it was irresponsible for the company to subject travelersl in a very "uneasy" , "uncomfortable" experience,. I do not recommend Asian Spirit, unless they have upgraded their planes. Otherwise, take Philippine AirLines to Kalibo instead. I just did a dummy fare search on Cebu Pacific.

It was only P2, including all taxes for a round trip from Manila to Kalibo and back again to Manila. I have not ridden on the bus from Kalibo to Caticlan for years but based on other bus fares, I assume it is still less than P How much is your Asian Spirit airfare?

Both airlines are very reliable. I flew already several times. If you really want to go for convenience avoid going to Kalibo. I just flew to Kalibo last month to accompany my relatives who came from the States. We used the Palakbayan package of Philippine Airlines.

We found it to be very cheap. That's only about the price of a ticket on a regular fare if not on promo. If we have booked earlier, we could have gotten the rate of only Php5, for the same package.

The PAL plane we used has about a hundred passengers and we found the plane ok. The hotel is also ok. Not beachfront but only a 2-minute walk from the beach. Breakfast is ok too. We didn't mind the shuttle ride from Kalibo to Caticlan though. The shuttle ride is just ok with us for that price it's about 1 and a half hours considering the comfort of your flight on a big aircraft or maybe I'm not really very comfortable on small aircrafts.

But we had a good experience and would probably use the PAL package again soon. We tried to look at Cebu Pacific but we didn't like the selection of hotels they have. The rate is the same or even higher. I find the journey from Kalibo to be an uncomfortable and inconvenient pain in the ss! Plus if you have an early flight back to the city, think what time you'll have to get up in the morning to do that bus ride in reverse!

Caticlan Airport has a very short runway, and only a few types of commercial passenger airplanes can take off or land there. They are not no to be sure, but they are sturdy planes. I don't find them at all uncomfortable. For a turbo-prop is is relatively spacious and comfortable. Asian Spirit uses the LET's on some routes also. I don't trust Soviet technology. If you are uncomfortable on turboprop airplanes, you are better off flying on Philippine Airlines or Cebu Pacific to Kalibo and taking the bus to Caticlan, where you pick up the banca to Boracay.
