The food, dancing and music is good - but it is a bit pricey. Weekends are the busiest time and you may need a reservation. Lots of people celebrate special occasions there. They are still in business and are one of the best Russian restaurants in Brighton Beach although it's a bit off on Coney Island Avenue.

Be sure to call ahead and make reservations as some nights are "club" nights and many are booked solid. The only time to go is Friday or Saturday, otherwise it's dead. There's a lot of Russian and American music, dancing and a Vegas -style show. It is about an hour outside of Midtown. Don't think it will work out this trip but sounds really interesting. I've never been to Rasputin, but we often go to Primorski's. Very similar, and right in the heart of Brighton Beach. Very easy to get to by subway.

Type the word Primorski's in the NYC forum search box to see my reviews of it, and recos for the area. All I'm saying is that recommending Primorski to a newcomer who is not from New York and not a refugee from South Ossetia in lieu of Tatiana, National or Rasputin is half-hearted.

So, why didn't you just say that instead of using words that we don't need translations to know are obviously slurs. And I still don't get what you mean by "half-hearted" and the whole "south Ossetia" thing. If you want to say for example that, in your opinion, Primorski's is for uneducated old peasants and refugees, just say so. Peronally, I think the food is a good bargain, especially for lunch.

You don't need to dress up to get in, and they'll seat you even if there's a private party going on. We always enjoy sitting in the back during some gigantic, super-schmaltzy, over-the-top birthday party, baby shower, or anniversary dinner, complete with drunken testimonials and sappy poetry for the guest of honor, followed by electronic Frank Sinatra standards, cabaret and disco songs sung in English, Hebrew, French, Italian or any other language the performers can fake.
