Zuni beadwork has evolved from tourist souvenirs to detailed pieces of folk art. Gorgeous beaded patterns and designs throughout. Condition is excellent inside and out. The beaded cords on this piece are 11" long on each side, totaling 22" long with buckskin ties. This item is backed with leather. Many hours of sewing went into making this piece. This Native American Indian beaded leather wallet and change purse dates from s. The wallet was likely made to be sold as a souvenir at a reservation trading post.
The leather is very soft doe or calf skin and the beading is very well done. They both have zippered Crown closures of circa 's. These wallets and coin purses used to be sold to people visiting or passing through Indian Reservations, but they are a rare find today.
They are in Excellent condition. Wallet has small dark smudge mark from shelf wear on left leather side. Size 10 seed beads and the fish is a patch. Sweetgrass border. This set was made by D. Johnson; Tribe: Cheyenne. Leather stitched Necking to go around neck for a little extra support and comfort. Large beaded Deer with antlers wearing a Turquoise necklace and feather design all over. Deer has a hanging beaded feather on top side of head.
This is really stunning and an early piece. We believe it is from one of the Northwest tribes do to where it was acquired. A few missing beads here and there along the border, but overall, very nice. Owl is a beautiful patch. Who draws them from scratch!

It is all original. There is no date under the tail. It is dark gold velvet with glass bead decorations. The Zuni artists bead over a pillow form, using the peyote stitch and seed or glass beads.

The unique features of this piece is the duplication of each pattern and bead color of the patterns is repeated thru each side front and back both left and right sides. Here is a very nice pair of plateau beaded gauntlet gloves. They appear to have been culturally horse reins used. They are adorned with a beautiful beaded elk a pair of which opposes each other from hand to hand.
The wood is a white wood and I have been told it is probably Birch or Aspin. This is from an estate of an avid collector's estate. The skin is thicker and my thoughts a tougher animal as Elk. The collector had a large amount of Plains, Anazasi and Northeasten Indian pieces so it seems to add with what I have been told.
Martine is the gentleman that did the collecting with permission from the land owners back in the 's's. Beads were found all throughout this site with 4 mounds but none of the burials were disturbed. Floral side is excellent with no loose or missing beads. Several small sections along the edge are missing cobalt blue beads. The remainder are all in excellent condition with nothing loose or missing beads.
Here's a very nice strand of trade beads and a notched stone pendant found in on King Ranch in Yolo County. The red cloth outside is covered with glass beads in colors of yellow, blue, turquoise and clear. There is a great stylized turquoise flower with beaded dangles. The sides of the pouch have two strands of string coming from it. A cloth and glass beaded Match Safe slipper. The slipper is 6" tall, 3. Could be. Medallion is 3. An unusual old bottle with a small cork lid.
The bottle is clear glass with beadwork up the entire circumference. Curatorial Remarks: Minor bead loss to lower right trim. Bags that were not woven were traditionally made from tanned leather, animal bladders, and all types of furred animal hides from the mole to the bear. The colonel and 4 other survived the raid. Bill Bowlegs looted everthing. Harney and several other troppers escaped into the nearby river. Nice pink beaded pin cushion.
Hand done. Made around They have paper forms and are stuffed with sweet grass. I disclose any and all imperfections to the best of my ability. Show some wear and tear especially to back. Please review photographs thoroughly. Really a great commemorative of Detroit. Should display very well thank you.
The hide is soft and supple, no stiffness. The drawstring is there, as shown. This example is heavily ,beaded with clear, red, green and clear beads. The back is good, but thread bare and the beading is missing from the bottom. Cones hang from flap and bottom, with twisted hide extensions with cones and red cloth remnants.
Partially beaded on back and with silver button on flap. Slight unraveling to to left twisted fringe. Many of the tiny beads are cut for that extra bling! Old green velvet trim at ankles, with lovely angular tongues with greasy yellow edge beds and tin cones. Hide Ceremonial Moccs. Sioux Fully Beaded.
